Clean Up Your Photos with These 5 Easy Photoshop Editing Tools

Taking digital photos is so easy from your phone or tablet, yet they don’t always come out as beautiful as those photos in the ads! There are many photo editing apps available, but none measure up to Photoshop’s vast array of features and tools. But Photoshop is not for the faint of heart. It’s a complex program with a myriad of options.

How can a casual, and not so casual, photographer utilize Photoshop to enhance those almost awesome photos that will dazzle your friends?

Experience Photoshops Retouch Tools

Hidden under Photoshop’s Spot Healing Brush Tool is a selection of useful retouch tools. Each tool works a bit differently, but each is designed to help touch up blemishes, scratches, dust, glare, and even the bags under your eyes. All these tools have additional settings to fine tune their effects so give them a try.

Spot Healing Brush

This handy tool smooths imperfections by blending the offending pixels with the surrounding pixels matching color and texture. Select the tool and drag across a blemish or dust spot. It may look like you are painting a fat black line, but release the mouse and magic happens.

Healing Brush Tool

This tool is a bit more sophisticated. The Healing Brush Tools allows you to select an area to use as paint for painting over the pixels to be removed, while at the same time blending with the surrounding pixels. After selecting the Healing Brush Tool, hold Alt or Option on the Mac, and click the area to use as paint. Then simply paint over the area to be removed.

Patch Tool

The Patch Tool works similarly to the Healing Brush, but you can select a larger area with this tool, then drag it over the area of the photo to be removed and Photoshop blends the moved pixel into the area to be repaired. Select the Patch Tool and lasso a similar but unblemished area. Then hover over the selection and drag over the area that needs repairing.

Red Eye Tool

That annoying red eye effect can really ruin a photo. But Photoshop’s Red Eye Tool makes quick work of removing the evil gleam from your eye. Select the tool and click on the red gleam. Adjust the Pupil Size and Darken amount as needed, but the defaults work quite well.

Content-Aware Move Tool

This tool is a more sophisticated version of the Patch tool and can be used to add or clone content and blend into the surrounding pixels. For more information on this amazing tool, go to https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/using/content-aware-patch-move.html
